Chapter 1199: Visiting All the Shelters and Recruitment
A few minutes earlier, before the crowd had gathered, Shane stood at the gates of New Genesis Shelter with one of his eight Uncommon Dragon Recruitment Stones in hand.
He had been saving them carefully, for his shelters...
Now, he was about to activate one of them.
"Please be a good one..." Shane muttered as he recalled Winter and Hunter, the two dragons that came out from the same Recruitment Stones.
As soon as he finished his prayer, he triggered the stone.
[ Uncommon Dragon Recruitment Stone ]
[ Hint: The Dragon Recruitment Stone is a single‑use item that allows a Survivor to summon and bond with a young dragon. Dragons are not simple companions. They choose their own territory and will fiercely protect it alongside their summoner. ]
[ Dragons may demand offerings such as mana crystals or rare meats to maintain loyalty. Their strength grows with proper care. ]
[ Do you want to activate the Recruitment Stone? ]
"Yes..." Shane replied without hesitation.
Immediately, a gray fog surged outward, blanketing the shelter with its haze...
Even the air grew colder as it was filled with mana...
Soon, the ground trembled faintly.
The guards and other survivors nearby froze, unsure of what was happening. Then, a roar was heard, echoing across the walls.
From within the fog, a massive silhouette emerged... Its wings unfurled by about 20 meters, and soon, its scales glinted like molten steel.
"Oh? A red dragon this time? Nice..." Shane muttered as he recalled Raze’s Dragon, Roan.
In any case, he was now aware that the Uncommon Dragon Recruitment Stone could really provide him with different elemental Dragons.
Right now, Shane guessed that its power was fire. Well, Hunter was a green dragon that leaned on nature magic, while Winter was a blue one that used ice or water elemental.
The dragon burst forth, circling high above the New Genesis Shelter.
Its presence was definitely wild and would be a great defender of this shelter.
"Let’s see..." Shane muttered as he watched the dragon observe the situation.
Shane knew well that dragons were not creatures to be commanded. They were sovereign beings, choosing their own territories and defending them according to the Stones.
This one was no different. It circled the shelter several times, its eyes scanned every wall, every turret, every barrier, including the people within.
Only after confirming the extent of the territory did it descend, landing heavily before Shane.
Thud...
The ground shook as its claws dug into the earth.
The dragon lowered its head, releasing a growl that reverberated through the courtyard.
Shane smiled as he realized that the dragon had acknowledged the shelter, marking it as its home.
"Nice... What should I name you?" Shane muttered to himself.
Still, since it was their first meeting, he reached into his storage and pulled out a crate of mana crystals. He tossed one toward the dragon.
The beast caught it effortlessly in its jaws, crunching it like candy.
Crunch... Crunch...
A faint glow spread across its scales as it swallowed, clearly savoring the treat.
Dragons ate meat and other prey, but mana crystals were rare delicacies, strengthening their bodies and deepening their bond with the land they chose to protect.
Another crystal followed, and again the dragon devoured it eagerly. Shane even noticed a fire coming out of its nose for a brief moment.
Shane chuckled softly. "I see... you like them. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you’re well supplied."
"Wait... I know. Your name is Cinder!" Shane said.
Thankfully, the Dragon didn’t complain and accepted the name with a growl.
By now, the fog had lifted, revealing the dragon fully to the shelter’s residents.
Survivors who had stumbled out of their quarters gasped, their voices rising in shock.
"A... a dragon?" one whispered, trembling.
"Is this... the Dragon Army’s kind? Are we under attack?" another cried.
"No... look! It’s not attacking. It’s bowing to Lord Shane!"
"Impossible... dragons don’t obey anyone. Wait... Did he tame it?"
"Amazing! Is he a Dragon Tamer now or something?"
"We’re not even sure if that Dragon is from the Dragon Army."
"Whatever it is... That’s so cool!"
Fear quickly gave way to awe as they realized that they weren’t in danger.
Then, the dragon’s wings folded neatly as it stood beside Shane, calm and watchful.
Shane raised his voice so all could hear. "Do not be afraid. This dragon, Cinder, has chosen New Genesis as its territory. From now on, it will protect us."
The crowd erupted in disbelief, then cheers.
Relief washed over them... After all, to have a dragon as their guardian was beyond anything they had imagined.
"Hahaha! Awesome!"
"A Dragon protector? Amazing!"
"Can it detect Vampires earlier?"
"That would be great. Vampires can easily disguise as humans during the night."
"I hope so... They’re too sneaky at night."
"The Dragon should be able to do it."
Just like that, the soldiers who had once reached for their weapons lowered them, impressed by their Clan Leader.
Soon, the atmosphere shifted from fear to celebration.

Among the crowd, a sculptor named Junmar stood frozen, his eyes locked on Shane and the dragon.
It didn’t take long before inspiration struck him like lightning.
He rushed back to his workshop, his mind already sketching designs.
"This moment must be remembered," he softly said as he recalled the scene that inspired him.
Just like that, a new sculpture was about to be born...
"Shane and the Dragon, Guardians of New Genesis..." Junmar muttered as he already thought of the name of the sculpture.

On the other hand, after Cinder had settled into New Genesis, Shane knew he couldn’t stop there.
He decided to use his portal to help the other shelters as well.
Omega Stronghold was his first destination.
This shelter specialized in enhancing survivors, granting them special classes and training that turned ordinary survivors into elite fighters.
As Shane arrived, he handled the executive matters and soon, he held another Uncommon Dragon Recruitment Stone...
The activation sent a surge of mana through the fortress, and soon a shadow descended from the sky.
A dragon with black scales and red eyes landed before him.
Shane tossed a mana crystal, and the beast devoured it eagerly, releasing a thunderous roar that shook the walls creating a bit of electricity around it.
"Lightning? Alright... Your name will be Slayer."
Next, Shane traveled to Springriver Manor, the shelter that fed them all.
It had vast fields of grains, vegetables, and fruits stretched across the land, with vineyards producing wine that had become a rare luxury.
After Shane handed the matters regarding the Clan Hall, the Temple, and others, Shane activated another stone.
This time, another green dragon emerged, similar to Hunter.
"I guess you’ll watch over the harvest and protect the lifeblood of our people," Shane whispered. "Your name will be Harvester."
Just like that, with Harvester guarding the fields, they felt their crops would never fall to plague or raiders again.
Through the portal, Shane arrived at Blue Haven Shelter... She briefly greeted Fiona and Vasco.
This stronghold was vital for ship production and fishing, supplying resources to every other shelter. When Shane activated the stone, the sea itself seemed to respond.
A dragon with sapphire scales rose from the waves...
It had a lighter blue color than Winter.
"Perfect. A water dragon, right?" Shane muttered.
Soon, the fishermen gasped as the dragon landed..
Shane fed it mana crystals, and the dragon exhaled a misty spray that smelled of brine.
"Whoa~ I guess you really belong to the sea," Shane said with a grin.
"Your name will be Seafarer."
Finally, Shane stepped into the Eclipse Domain, the shelter that produced fuel... the lifeblood of machines and vehicles.
Just like what he remembered about the place, the air was thick with smoke and oil.
When the stone was triggered, fog mingled with the fumes, and a dragon emerged with scales dark as coal, glowing faintly with embers beneath.
Though it was black like Slayer, it had a different sheen about it.
Soon, it circled the shelter as Shane was thinking of its name...
He watched as its breathe releasing a hot air...
Shane tossed mana crystals, and the dragon crunched them as well...
This time, this black dragon releases flames instead of lightning.
"Hmm... I already have Cinder... Let’s see... Alright, your name will be Ember..."
As soon as the Dragon acknowledged it name, the soldiers also celebrated.
With Ember watching over the Eclipse Domain, they felt invincible.
By the time Shane returned through the portals, each shelter had its guardian.
Slayer in Omega Stronghold, Harvester in Springriver Manor, Seafarer in Blue Haven, and Ember in Eclipse Domain.
Each dragon had chosen its territory...
Word spread quickly among the survivors. Even the world chat was starting to talk about this. After all, these shelters had many visitors from various clans around the world.
The appearance of Dragons on their side had quickly become a hot topic among Foreign Survivors.
Still, they were no longer that surprised since it was Shane’s shelter, the Rank 1 Survivor and Rank 1 Clan Leader!
The only concern now was whether he’d increase the entry fee of his shelters!
