Chapter 323 The Black-Robed Wizard Li Ang
Eve handed the black robe to Li Ang, a faint smile on her face, a mixture of helplessness and pride. "When I ordered the blue robe for you last time, I thought—with your growth rate, you might be able to use a black robe soon. So, I asked the shop to prepare one as well."
She paused, her smile deepening. "It seems my hunch was right. And—at this rate, I should start preparing the purple and white robes as well."
Li Ang accepted the black robe that symbolized his status as a fourth-level wizard. It was soft and smooth to the touch, and he could feel the care Eve had put into it.
So he said solemnly, "Thank you, Professor. I'm so grateful for your help."
"Okay, go change quickly," Eve nodded and urged.
When Li Ang changed into a black robe and came out again, everyone in the living room looked over. The deep black made his figure appear even more upright, and the calm and dignified demeanor of a fourth-level wizard was naturally revealed. Compared with the sharp and vigorous spirit when he wore a blue robe, he had become more composed.
At the dining table, Maya was scooping up the empty bowl of porridge in front of her, but her eyes kept glancing at Leon and Eve. She only realized the bowl was empty when she brought the spoon to her lips, paused, and then told them to put it down. Olivia seemed focused on eating her bread, but her red dragon tail was restlessly swaying back and forth behind her chair, the tip occasionally tapping lightly on the floor with a soft "pat-pat" sound.
Helena glanced at the absent-minded Maya beside her, then at Olivia whose tail was wagging wildly, and finally at Eve, who was adjusting Leon's robe sleeves. She could only lower her head silently, focusing on the fried eggs on her plate, pretending that she hadn't seen anything.
Diana took in the girls' little antics, feeling both annoyed and amused. She cleared her throat and broke the awkward silence: "Li Ang, Eve, let's eat first. Congratulations on advancing, the black robe fits you well too. But there's still the quarterfinals later, so don't be late."
Everyone then snapped out of their reverie and began to enjoy breakfast.
After the meal, the group left the Quiet Wind Pavilion and prepared to head to the arena. However, as soon as they stepped out of the Elemental Tower, they sensed that something was amiss.
The chalk tower wizards moving back and forth inside the tower no longer had the composure and enthusiasm of the previous days; instead, they wore a subtle tension and solemnity.
Diana frowned and said to Li Ang, "Wait a moment, I'll go ask."
She approached a blue-robed steward of the White Chalk Tower who was directing several wizard followers to move supplies. The two spoke for a while, and Diana's expression gradually darkened.
She strode back to the group, her voice low and tinged with an unusual urgency: "Something's happened. Late last night, the Chalk Tower received an urgent message that the area surrounding the Obsidian Tower was under attack by a large-scale insectoid monster attack!"
"A swarm?" Li Ang's heart skipped a beat, and an ominous premonition crept up on him like cold vines.
"Yes," Diana said gravely. "The reports say the swarm is extremely large, swift, and incredibly destructive. They have already destroyed several border villages within Obsidian Tower's territory."
Obsidian City is currently organizing a full-scale resistance, but the situation is dire. Last night, all Obsidian Tower personnel who came to participate in the competition withdrew urgently and rushed back overnight.

In Li Ang's mind, fragments of memories he had obtained from the ancestral dragon Galakrond flashed by: an endless swarm of insects devouring the sparks of civilization.
The vanguard of the end—has it already begun?
He forced himself to calm down and immediately pressed on, "Professor, what's the Alliance's reaction? When are they planning to send support?"
Diana shook her head, a hint of seriousness and dissatisfaction on her face: "The alliance's higher-ups are divided. Some believe that Obsidian Tower, as an important member of the alliance with deep resources, shouldn't be unable to hold out for even a few days. They advocate waiting until the entire tournament is over before coordinating resources to provide support, so as not to disrupt the original arrangements and affect the symbolic significance of the tournament showcasing the alliance's unity and strength."
She paused, her tone becoming more serious: "Another group believes the situation is urgent and that some personnel responsible for security during the competition and other non-core tasks should be immediately redeployed to send several elite teams to investigate and provide support. However—the two factions are deadlocked and no conclusion has been reached yet."
"Wait until the competition ends? Or transfer some personnel?" Li Ang frowned deeply, a chill rising from the bottom of his heart.
Bureaucratic procrastination and obsession with symbolic meaning appear so ridiculous and powerless in the face of disaster.
Without further hesitation, he turned to the Carlos faction leader beside him and said firmly, "Faction leader, I want to set off immediately to provide support at Obsidian Tower."
Carlos clearly realized the seriousness of the situation; the wrinkles on his face seemed to deepen. He looked at Li Ang and slowly nodded: "Li Ang, I understand how you feel. Giving up the match is certainly a pity, but—some things are more important than winning or losing. I respect your choice."
Li Ang continued, "Furthermore, I hope that the faction leader can immediately report to the tournament organizing committee and the alliance leadership in the name of Lelita that Obsidian Tower is likely not facing an ordinary monster tide, but rather the vanguard of the 'End'!"
We must immediately organize all available support. Every moment of delay could mean the loss of more innocent lives and the further expansion of the Zerg swarm!
Carlos's expression hardened, and he nodded emphatically: "Alright! I'll get on it right away! You guys—be careful."
Li Ang then looked at Diana: "Professor, your injuries haven't fully healed yet, this time—"
"I'll go with you," Diana interrupted him, her crimson eyes burning with fighting spirit and determination. "If they truly are the vanguard of the End," she thought, "everyone else will be one more source of strength. My injuries are mostly healed, and my fighting power has recovered to about 70-80%. That's enough to deal with some insects."
Seeing the determination in her eyes, Li Ang knew that persuasion was useless, so he said no more and nodded, "Okay."
He quickly made arrangements: "Harris, you stay here and assist the faction leader in handling affairs here, and keep an eye on the aftermath of the tournament and the league's movements. Eve, mentor, Nelson, and Rodney, you also stay here; they need someone to look after them."
Eve's lips moved as if she wanted to say something, but seeing Li Ang's unquestionable gaze and the undeniable seriousness deep in his eyes, she finally just nodded slightly and whispered, "—Be careful in everything."
Harris adjusted his glasses and said solemnly, "Wizard Leon, please rest assured, leave this to us!"
"My lord, please come back safely!" Nelson and Rodney said, their eyes reddening as they bowed.
Li Ang gave Eve, Carlos, and the others a final nod of farewell, then turned and waved to his eager team members: "Special Operations Team One, Professor Dinah, let's go!"
