Lilith rested her chin on her hand and said softly, "I'm here to give you some 'homework'."
"homework?"
Lillian crossed her legs and tapped her knees lightly with her fingers:
"There's some new information about the History and Archaeology Society. Next Wednesday night, a few old guys from the society have been invited to the 'Oberhafen Port Development and Charity Night.' Your task is to find a way to infiltrate their group, get close to them, and gain their trust. Then..."
She paused, then looked at Green meaningfully. "Find a way to extract something useful from them, or from that occasion. Of course, it has to be about the 'Records of Revelation.' I think you haven't forgotten the deal with the Garden of Prosperity, have you?"
Green frowned. "Charity Night? What's that?"
Lillian casually fiddled with her fingers. "A dinner party, darling. One of the favorite tricks of high society, under the guise of charity and development, but really just a place for socializing, showing off, and exchanging favors. Fine wine, gourmet food, dresses, and... secrets."
Dinner? Next Wednesday?
A thought struck Green.
Aunt Sylvia seemed to have mentioned before that, in order for Emily to enter social circles, the family was preparing to attend an important dinner party, and Uncle Victor had specially made an expensive dress for Emily.
Wait a minute! The time seems to be next Wednesday! Could it be the same one?
"I wasn't invited. How do I get in?" Green pointed out the key question.
Lillian finally stopped what she was doing, looked up at him, and said, "An invitation? I don't have one."
She shrugged. "So, how you get in is your own problem. Sneaking into a dinner party shouldn't be too difficult for a 'collaborator' who's a bit clever and needs to prove their worth, right?"
Green felt a headache coming on.
Sneaking into a heavily guarded, strictly regulated high-society dinner? That's no easy feat. Using Emily? Aside from the fact that they'd just fallen out, even if it were possible, the risks were extremely high.
He wanted to ask for more details, such as which specific members of the society would be attending, the exact location and schedule of the dinner, but Lillian had already stood up.
She gracefully adjusted her skirt and walked straight toward the window. As she passed Green, she suddenly stopped.
Before Green could react, she suddenly bent down and cupped his face in her hands.
Lillian moved quickly, with a mischievous intimacy, leaning close to Green and giggling softly in a tone that mimicked Sura's clear and charming voice:
"Brother~ I'm your own sister~" she deliberately dragged out her words.
Before Green could recover from this sudden and chilling imitation, she immediately let go and took a step back.
Then, to Green's astonishment, her figure blurred and elongated rapidly, instantly transforming into a black cat.
The black cat glanced back at Green with a smile in its eyes, then leaped away.
Once Green realized what was happening, he lunged at the dark figure without thinking.
"Stop right there!"
But they came up empty-handed; Lillian had already disappeared into the darkness outside the window.
"Lillian! Don't let me catch you!"
Despite his anger, he still had to find a way to complete the task Lillian had given him. He didn't think he could skip out on the bill in front of the Flourishing Garden, at least not now.
Green gazed out the window, lost in thought. "The Oberhafen Port Development and Charity Night..."
Suddenly, he thought of something, and a slow smile appeared on his lips. "Invitations are for other people, I don't need them."
......
The next morning, sunlight streamed in through the gaps in the curtains.
"Sula! Get up! Don't be late today!" He stood at Sula's door and knocked.
Sula's groaning came from inside.
Green didn't dwell on it and turned to walk towards the bathroom. Just as he reached his own room, Emily's door opened.
The two met in the corridor.
Emily clearly hadn't slept well; her eyes were a little red and swollen.
She was taken aback when she saw Green, but then the anger and grievances from last night surged up again. She glared at Green, her face full of "I hate you" and "I don't want to talk to you".
Green was also annoyed. He had meant well yesterday. If it weren't for Aunt Sylvia's concern, he wouldn't have bothered with it at all. In the end, not only did she not appreciate it, but she also made a scene.
As a result, Lillian broadcast this whole family scandal live.
Neither of them spoke, but they both started walking at the same time, with a clear destination—the restroom.
When they were a few steps away from the bathroom door, the two of them quickened their pace at the same time!
Just as he was about to bump into her at the door, Green remembered how this woman had scratched and clawed him last night and called him a baboon. He wondered where she had learned such a new word, and his anger surged instantly.
I won't indulge her today.
Green stretched out his foot and stepped directly on her slipper.
Emily gasped and stumbled forward, landing awkwardly on the bathroom door to avoid falling.
Green looked at her indifferently, then pushed the door open, opened it, closed it, and locked it in one smooth motion.
Emily was stunned for two seconds before she reacted, and the immense embarrassment and anger made her face turn red instantly.
"Green! You! You bastard! Open the door!" Emily was furious outside, pounding on the wooden door. "You short-haired baboon! You incompletely evolved monkey! Get out here right now!"
Green leaned against the door, listening to the angry shouts and pounding on the door outside. Instead of getting angry, he felt that the frustration he had accumulated last night had dissipated somewhat.
He slowly and deliberately turned on the tap.
"Emily! What's all the noise about so early in the morning? Mind your ladylike manners!" came Aunt Sylvia's slightly reproachful shout from downstairs.
The pounding on the door and the shouting stopped abruptly, leaving only Emily's heavy breathing as she suppressed her anger.
Green hummed a light violin tune from his past life. Although it was off-key, his mood was clearly cheerful.
He slowly washed his face, brushed his teeth, and then went to the toilet to "release water".
After doing all this, he tidied his hair in front of the mirror before leisurely walking to the door and opening it.
Emily, standing outside the door, nearly ground her teeth to powder as she glared at Green.
Green walked past as if he hadn't seen her.
"You..." Emily was trembling with anger, pointing her finger at him.
Back in his room, Green quickly changed his clothes and went downstairs for dinner.
In the dining room, Uncle Victor was already seated at the head of the table, intently preparing his breakfast. He held a copy of today's Oberhafen Morning Post in his hand, his brow slightly furrowed, as if he were reviewing yesterday's municipal news.
Sylvia was still busy between the kitchen and the dining room, bringing out freshly toasted bread and warm milk.
Green pulled out a chair and sat down, looking at Aunt Sylvia who was carrying food. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something about what happened last night, or at least explain.
Sylvia shook her head at him.
Green understood instantly.
Whatever exactly happened last night, in front of Uncle Victor, it was a 'terrible thing' that needed to be covered up.
My uncle is a busy and serious man who values his reputation. Aunt Sylvia clearly doesn't want to bother him with family arguments, especially those involving sensitive topics like her daughter's reputation, and she certainly doesn't want to cause any further family conflict.
Green shut his mouth, silently accepted the toast his aunt handed him, and began to eat quietly.
The only sounds in the restaurant were Uncle Victor turning the pages of his newspaper and the soft chewing.
A little while later, Sula's clear but anxious voice came from upstairs: "Sister Emily! Hurry up! Otherwise I'll be late again!"
The sound broke the silence. Uncle Victor looked up from his newspaper, frowned, but said nothing, only giving a soft hum to express his displeasure at the children's dawdling over breakfast.
Fifteen minutes later, hurried footsteps echoed down the stairs. Sula, carrying her schoolbag, rushed into the dining room, grabbed a slice of toast, and stuffed it into her mouth. "Good morning... Auntie, Uncle."
Aunt Sylvia quickly straightened her collar, "Eat slowly, don't choke, there's still time."
A few minutes later, Emily finally came downstairs.
She paused as she passed Green, reverting to her usual arrogance and glaring at him. But once she sat down next to Victor, she immediately adopted a docile and obedient ladylike demeanor, softly saying, "Good morning, Daddy. Good morning, Mommy."
Green ate his breakfast silently, watching his family gathered together, but in his mind he was thinking about what to do if he ran into Emily at the dinner party. What if he was even more unlucky and ran into his aunt and uncle?
He needed to find a plausible way to get involved in the dinner party without arousing suspicion.
After all, it was obvious that he and Sura wouldn't be taken to that kind of event. It was a Hayes family event, and Green knew his uncle very well.
