Book 3: Chapter 95: White Moon Potion Recipe
The exhibition hall of the "Four Salts School" was where masters of potion-making gathered. They specialized in various potion-related arts, the most renowned being their production of various "salt agents."
The "salt" here did not refer to the common table salt used in daily life, but rather a certain pure compound. Under specific temperatures, it would form crystalline structures, serving as a common raw material and intermediate product in alchemy and pharmaceuticals. Sometimes, it could even directly enhance spell potency through the blessing of "salt agent" potions—much like pouring fuel oil onto a fire to make the flames burn more fiercely.
For example, if Sylutia wanted to cast a spell using the "Verdant Nectar" Aspect, she could first prepare a potion using "Cornflower" as raw material. When releasing the spell, she could leverage the "Verdant Nectar" Aspect within the potion to amplify its power, much like adding fuel to an already burning flame.
Although not one of the three strongest schools, the "Four Salts School" ranked among the top ten within the Mage Alliance, even ahead of the "Puppetry School." A considerable crowd had gathered here, especially apothecaries and alchemists.
Here, Sylutia spotted several apothecaries from the Hidden Grove. The "White Scroll Herb Jar" badges pinned to their chests looked very familiar to her.
Unfortunately, she couldn't go over and greet them right now. She could only observe and listen from a distance.
As they browsed and purchased potions, the two parties exchanged recent news and experiences. Some apothecaries even took out their own crafted works to trade with others.
"I have a bottle of 'Phantom Body Potion' here. It can transform the user into a ferocious giant bear. Interested?" one apothecary's words caught the attention of a Four Salts School mage.
"Let me have a look," the mage said, taking the proffered potion. He examined it carefully, using a special secret art to sense its medicinal properties.
"The quality is indeed excellent—should be Fourth Tier Superior grade." The mage nodded."What potion do you want in exchange?"
"I need a bottle of 'Wildfire Erosion Curse' potion, also Fourth Tier."
"Oh, looks like you've run into a tough opponent." The mage chuckled, then rummaged through a storage box in the backstage area. He finally pulled out a potion bottle, crimson red like smoldering embers.
Inside the square bottle, there seemed to be flowing flames, radiating heat and a sense of aggression.
[Wildfire Erosion Curse] (Fourth Tier · Scorching Sun · Dead Embers) — A curse-infused potion. When activated and sprayed, it produces bone-like fire. The special curse within spreads throughout the body, igniting the entire form from the inside out.
"Be careful with this thing. If you accidentally get it on you when you use it, it's extremely dangerous."
"If you want the corresponding antidote, I have that for sale too, but that's an additional cost."
"You mages are always like this—too good at making money." The apothecary thought it over, then purchased an additional bottle of [Snow Quenching Potion] to prevent accidents.
Sylutia watched the two complete their transaction, casting a few extra glances at that bottle of "Wildfire Erosion Curse" potion. She thought about the special "curse card" she still had sealed away. If she could integrate that "Black Quis Curse" into a potion, given favorable conditions, crafting a "Fifth Tier" potion shouldn't be too difficult.
She continued strolling for a while longer, her attention eventually caught by a particular potion on display here.
[White Moon Potion] (Third Tier · Luminous Moon) — A potion redeveloped based on lost technology. Can purify the distorted corruption of the Shadow World, with relatively strong effects.
Although the traces and Rhythms were somewhat faint, Sylutia could still tell that this was a work drawing from the technological legacy of the "Silver Radiance Church." Back in the day, the "Silver Radiance Church" had delved deep into the Shadow World, developing numerous secret arts to counter its distorted corruption. Potions were a crucial part of that effort.
However, during the conflict of the Hours in the Eighth Epoch, the Silver Radiance Church had collapsed along with Meleranke's passing, and many secret arts had been lost and withered. Although later generations had developed potions with similar effects, they still fell somewhat short compared to the church's golden age.
"Is there a potion recipe for sale here?" Sylutia stood at the counter and asked.
"We do have potion recipes. Which one does this young lady need?" A Four Salts School mage approached. He looked quite young, probably a student from the school temporarily pulled in to help, much like Aurora.
"That one—the 'White Moon Potion' recipe." Sylutia pointed at the vial of potion.
"That one? Let me look it up." The young man flipped through the booklet in his hands.
Half a minute later, he put down the booklet and began to answer.
"The 'White Moon Potion' recipe is a type available for sale. However, it's a rare potion recipe, requiring triple the standard price—that is, 300 gold coins."
Generally speaking, common Third Tier potions cost around 50 gold coins, while rare ones could exceed 100 gold coins.
After a moment's hesitation, Sylutia reached for the pouch at her waist and took out three special Third Tier gems, offering them as substitutes for the gold coins.
"Three Good-quality Sapphires—their value should exceed 300 gold coins. Please wait a moment." He took the gems and went to the backstage.
Soon, he came out again, handing a transcribed copy of the recipe to Sylutia along with 20 gold coins in change.
After putting it away, Sylutia felt a twinge of pain. After all, in her understanding, a Third Tier knight's annual income was only 100 gold coins, and this recipe was equivalent to three years of a knight's wages. (100 gold coins per year was on the lower end for Third Tier knights—only because the Regas Kingdom was remote and isolated that the rates were this low.)
But considering her own speed at making money, roughly 300 gold coins was just a few days' work.
With this recipe, she could more reasonably craft higher-quality purification potions. After all, she possessed one-third of the holy scripture's inheritance from the "Silver Radiance Church"—the very section that meticulously documented purification of corruption and removal of curses.
Leaving the "Four Salts School" exhibition hall, Sylutia headed to the next venue. On her subsequent journey, she saw various works from the "Insect Chant School"—beautiful butterflies sealed in glass bottles, glowing flying insects emitting strange fluorescence, special bugs that could alter one's voice when placed in the mouth, centipedes that could absorb toxins by parasitizing a human body, and so on.
After that came the "Mountain Copper School," which displayed various excellent metal materials of such high quality they could be used to forge powerful weapons at the Fifth and Sixth Tiers.
There were also the "Lock Key School's" various sealed creations, the "Sculpture Cast School's" powerful Golems, the "Weaving School's" flexible materials, and many others.
Just as Sylutia wanted to continue exploring, the magic orb at her cuff emitted a strange fluctuation. Then, she heard a voice coming from within.
"At the 'Gem School' exhibition hall in the north 12° direction, we've had a conflict with the Hidden Grove delegation. Both sides have agreed to settle it with a duel. Reporting now." The voice sounded like it belonged to the second-year Chief.
Upon hearing this, Sylutia checked the surrounding signs to determine her location, then quickly made her way toward the exhibition hall mentioned in the message.
