Chapter 840 - Just Messing Around
Chapter 840 - Just Messing Around
Will Ganfeng settled the clan members’ concerns, changed into his robes, and left the castle with Han Wu and Qin Shuang. Under the clear moonlight, he finally got a proper look at the two of them.
What a devious young man and a lovely young woman. That was Will Ganfeng’s first impression of the pair. He assumed Qin Shuang had come along because Han Wu had somehow coerced her.
“Tell me your plan,” he said.
“Killing Zhan Yuwen only takes three steps,” Han Wu said. “Step one, I will bring him in front of you. Step two, you kill him. Step three, you run. Simple, right?”
Will Ganfeng’s first instinct was to turn around, walk back into his castle, and shut the door. Could that even be called a plan?
“Zhan Yuwen is no weakling, and he’s surrounded by many guards at all times. I can’t guarantee I can kill him,” Will Ganfeng said bluntly.
That answer left Han Wu at a loss. If Will Ganfeng couldn’t kill Zhan Yuwen, then the entire trip would have been pointless.
“Then let’s do this. Attack me with everything you have. Let me see what you can do,” Han Wu said. He had no choice but to judge Will Ganfeng’s strength for himself.
The two found an open area and took their positions. Will Ganfeng summoned his orange citrus tree totem, which transformed into a staff in his hand. As he channeled his power, a wind-attribute Microcosm materialized before him. Boundless Wind Energy flowed into the staff and eventually formed a wind orb the size of a barrel.
Will Ganfeng didn’t rush to fire. Drawing on decades of battle experience, he compressed the wind orb down to the size of a fist over the course of thirty seconds. Its destructive power multiplied a hundredfold in the process.
Once the compression was complete, Will Ganfeng aimed the staff at Han Wu and released the wind orb. It crossed the distance and struck Han Wu head-on. On impact, it expanded rapidly, and the force sent Han Wu flying in an arc before he crashed onto the ground.
Will Ganfeng was momentarily alarmed. He worried that he had killed Han Wu with the attack. Then again, if Han Wu died, there would be no longer any need to assassinate Zhan Yuwen.
The next moment, that hope was dashed. Han Wu sat up completely unharmed. Not even his clothes had wrinkled.
Will Ganfeng felt as if he was looking at a ghost. He had spent years developing his wind orb, yet it had done absolutely nothing to Han Wu despite landing at point-blank range.
Han Wu rose, brushed the dust from his clothes, and clicked his tongue. “Not bad. The charge time is a little too long. Also, spherical wind attacks aren’t very effective against single targets. I can show you a different form of attack.”
He demonstrated as he spoke. A wind-attribute Microcosm was summoned in front of him. It was Steelcutter Swordwind’s own Microcosm. A large quantity of Wind Energy surged out and gathered at his fingertip.
Will Ganfeng stared wide-eyed. He had controlled Wind Energy for decades, yet he had never once seen anyone manipulate it directly through their finger instead of through a staff.
Under Han Wu’s control, the Wind Energy took the shape of a cone. Spinning at extreme speed, it generated friction against the air until electricity and fire began building inside the cone.
Once he gathered roughly the same amount of Wind Energy that Will Ganfeng had used, he launched the wind cone toward a hillside ten kilometers away.
The cone blazed brightly as it flew. The instant it struck the hill, it exploded with a tremendous blast. The impact tore a massive crater into the hillside. Its destructive power was at least ten times greater than Will Ganfeng’s wind orb despite consuming the exact amount of energy.
Will Ganfeng stood frozen in shock. He lost his footing and dropped to his knees with a thud. The look he gave Han Wu was filled with awe.
Genius. Prodigy. Creator of new techniques. Those words crossed Will Ganfeng’s mind, but none of them fully captured Han Wu’s talent.
“Young man, no, Teacher, please accept me as your student. If you take me in, I’ll go wherever you point and kill whoever you name!” Will Ganfeng said emotionally.
Han Wu could only sigh. “I was just experimenting and giving you a way to think about it. My real strength isn’t magic, it’s close-range combat.”
Instead of calming Will Ganfeng down, the explanation made him more fervent. Han Wu had just been messing around and had already exceeded the limits of what Will Ganfeng could achieve. That only reinforced how necessary it was to take him as a teacher.
“Teacher, please accept me as your student! I will follow all the rules a student should follow and serve you with everything I have!” Will Ganfeng pleaded.
Han Wu clicked his tongue. Having a man over seventy serve him was the kind of story that would follow him all the way back to the Divine Civilization.
“If you want to learn something, I’ll teach you, but first you have to kill Zhan Yuwen. Consider that our deal. As for becoming your teacher, forget about it.” Han Wu politely rejected Will Ganfeng’s request to become his disciple.
Even so, Will Ganfeng was absolutely delighted. He felt as though he had found a new passion beyond war itself. Under Han Wu’s guidance, he mastered the wind cone technique Han Wu had demonstrated in a single day. He then combined it with his own experience and created several techniques of his own.
The progress gave Will Ganfeng real confidence in killing Zhan Yuwen. He firmly believed that with the wind cone technique, he could ensure that Zhan Yuwen had nowhere left to escape.
Once the decision was made, Han Wu and Qin Shuang brought Will Ganfeng with them and rushed back to Battle City at top speed. Under the cover of night, they quietly smuggled him into the palace. There, they reunited with He Xu, whose expression was grim.
During the five days Han Wu had been away, quite a bit had happened in Battle City. Ninety percent of the Battlecraze Empire’s generals had openly declared their support for Zhan Yuwen as the next king. Of the remaining ten percent, those who claimed they were waiting for the old king’s decision were, in reality, simply unwilling to take the risk. Once the old king died, they too would flock to Zhan Yuwen’s side.
In other words, Zhan Yuwen had already secured the support of nearly ninety-five percent of the empire. Under such overwhelming dominance, even if Zhan Yuwen refused the throne, the generals would probably carry the crown to his doorstep and place it on his head themselves.
Under those circumstances, even if the old king announced Zhan Fanyin as his successor, it would make no difference. On top of that, the old king’s health continued to decline by the day. Even if he wanted to support Zhan Fanyin, he had no strength to do so.
“Senior He Xu, don’t worry. Leave what comes next to Master Will here. He will clear every obstacle in our way,” Han Wu said as he introduced Will Ganfeng to He Xu.
Seeing how much respect Han Wu showed He Xu, Will Ganfeng immediately became much more polite.
“Rest assured. I will carry out my teacher’s instructions and cut down Zhan Yuwen!” Will Ganfeng declared, pounding his chest confidently.
