Chapter 21 Sixth Master
Chapter 21 Sixth Master
For science and technology to generate economic benefits, it must go through a series of steps, including idea generation, technology research and development, experimental verification, and finally, civilian production.
The first three stages take the longest time, possibly ten or twenty years, or perhaps there is no end in sight.
The old man had been involved in scientific work for over a decade, so he knew it all too well.
Without the government's safety net, he was genuinely worried that Li Youyu would starve to death.
"Twenty years may be earth-shattering on Earth, but on a cosmic scale, it's just a moment. Your research object is the universe, and you've seen the precedent of Red Coast. This is not up for discussion. It's your ability to produce results. You can take the profits, but the responsibility that belongs to the country should be borne by the country. Kid, you're not alone."
Having lived two lives, Li Youyu's current transmigration into The Three-Body Problem can be considered his third life.
He was a rational person who wouldn't get caught up in grand narratives, but when he heard the old man say, "You are not alone," Li Youyu was still touched.
In a dark universe like the Three-Body Problem, companions are a rare commodity.
As the conversation drew to a close, Li Youyu simply laid everything out: "Sir, the Dark Forest Deterrence doesn't apply to groups. I suggest you don't tell too many people."
If everyone on Earth knew about the Dark Forest Theory, someone might just throw out Earth's coordinates, which would be a double-edged sword.
"I have some suggestions regarding the Trisolaran civilization."
"Are you going to talk about your contact symbol theory again?"
"Okay, so you know now."
The old man smiled, and Li Youyu thought he saw a hint of smugness flash across his face. "Contact symbol theory is indeed a prediction that fits the reality. Your decision was also correct. If the information had been handed over to me through normal channels, a leak would have been inevitable."
"I will take the information about the Three-Body Problem back with me. I can ensure that only those who most need to know will know, but I certainly won't disclose it. NATO and the Warsaw Pact have imposed technological blockades on us, so why should we be selfless white rabbits?"
"We won't interfere with what Evans does, but we will keep this secret forever."
"I won't live that long into the future, so the matter of the Three-Body Problem will ultimately have to be resolved by you."
"But son, you must remember one thing: we never fight a battle we're unprepared for, nor do we fight a battle we're prepared for but have no chance of winning!"
"Go for it!"
-------
A convoy of jeeps came down from Radar Peak and parked not far from the village entrance.
Yang Weining noticed something unusual at the village entrance. He pushed Ye Wenjie, who was on a small cart, to the entrance and found Li Youyu and the old man standing there.
He nodded and greeted Li Youyu, but when he saw the old man's appearance, he was suddenly startled, "You..."
The old man glanced at him, signaling him not to mention it, and Yang Weining quickly changed his words, saying, "What brings you here?"
The old man said, "The last time I saw you, you were just a young boy. Now you're a stubble-faced old man."
Yang Weining scratched his cheek sheepishly, making a smacking sound.
Ye Wenjie couldn't understand what they were trying to say, so she asked, "Old Yang, who is the old gentleman?"
"Well..."
Yang Weining was speechless for a moment, and Li Youyu added casually, "Er, the old gentleman's surname is Er, and he is the ninth in his family. You can just call him Ninth Grandfather."
Er, what a rare surname.
Ye Wenjie thought.
She greeted the old man with a smile. The old man noticed the doll in her arms and asked, "What's the name of this very spirited doll?"
"I haven't decided yet."
Ye Wenjie said.
"Should I suggest a name for her?"
The old man asked.
Ye Wenjie thought a name was just a label, so she nodded in agreement without much thought.
To everyone's surprise, Yang Weining suddenly became stubborn, "No, no, a child's name can't be chosen so casually. I'll think of it, I'll choose it!"
Only after he finished speaking did he realize he had spoken too quickly, and he looked at the old man awkwardly.
The old man laughed and scolded, "That's the bad temper of a scholar."
With the matter settled, and given the rather cold climate of the Greater Khingan Mountains, the old man didn't linger. After saying goodbye to the others, he got into one of the jeeps in the convoy.
After the old man left, Ye Wenjie squeezed Yang Weining's hand. Yang Weining looked down and saw his wife's teasing gaze.
"You've been thinking about a name since you got pregnant, and now that you can't think of one, you can't even ask for suggestions?"
"Who says I didn't think about it? I've already decided. We met in the winter of the Greater Khingan Mountains, and our child was also born in the winter of the Greater Khingan Mountains, so her name will be Yang Dong, the Dong of winter!"
Ye Wenjie was speechless.
Yang Weining looked at Li Youyu and said, "How about this name, Comrade Youyu?"
"fine."
Li Youyu squatted down, placed the packaged milk powder and cloth on Ye Wenjie's small cart, took out a stack of money wrapped in red paper from his pocket, stuffed it into the baby's swaddling clothes, and said, "Little Yang Dong, your future story will definitely be extraordinary."
Returning from Qijiatun, just past the radar peak sentry post, Li Youyu saw more than a dozen soldiers carrying materials, boarding the troop transport vehicle one after another.
Behind them, someone caught Li Youyu's attention.
She was wearing a military green coat, but long chains bound her hands, and the kind face that had always been on her face had disappeared, replaced by an extremely resentful look in her eyes.
"Isn't this Director Cheng? What happened to her?"
Li Youyu stood in front of the guard post, asking the question he already knew the answer to.
The only person who could have taken Cheng Lihua down directly was an elderly person who might have just passed away.
Cheng Lihua's gaze swept over, staring intently at Li Youyu, who was kicking her while she was down.
She didn't recognize Li Youyu's face, and only felt that his presence made her uncomfortable.
The sentry was a veteran of the Red Coast Base and knew Li Youyu, but now, during his guard duty, he was not allowed to talk to others in principle.
He stood ramrod straight, his gaze drifting to Li Youyu, as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.
Just as Li Youyu was about to leave, he whispered, "I heard she concealed Political Commissar Lei's major discovery and prevented the results from being reported. The Red Coast Base is going to be shut down, all because of her. She deserves it!"
Li Youyu almost burst out laughing.
Originally, in his plan, Cheng Lihua was just a tool to suppress Lei Zhicheng's ambitions. Given her methods and intuition, as long as she didn't do anything reckless, no one would deliberately dig up her past mistakes.
Unexpectedly, Lei Zhicheng broke through the wall and managed to summon a celestial being from the South Heavenly Gate.
If all the old scores from back then, where she schemed against the heroes of the Two Bombs, are settled, Cheng Lihua's retirement pension is likely to be gone.
"Lend me a piece of paper, and a pen."
Li Youyu said.
The sentry remained motionless.
"You've already spoken, so stop pretending to be a block of wood. Go get it now, and I'll show you how Director Cheng blushes."
The sentry's lips twitched, but he couldn't resist his curiosity. He turned back to the guard post, tore a piece of paper from the notebook under his pillow, and handed it to Li Youyu along with a pencil.
Li Youyu finished writing in a few strokes and walked casually to Cheng Lihua's side.
Cheng Lihua stared at him with resentment, as if warning him not to come closer.
Li Youyu didn't care about anything else and placed the written paper carefully in her palm.
Cheng Lihua glanced at the contents, and a surge of shame and indignation welled up inside her; she felt like her blood vessels were about to burst.
"It's you, it's you, it's you!"
The smiling face on the paper was exactly the same as the one in Ye Wenjie's letter.
That little bastard, he's in cahoots with him!!
