Chapter 449: Dumbledore’s Doubt

Chapter 449: Dumbledore’s Doubt

Jellall was telling the truth. He hadn’t actually planned to kill Tom Riddle like this, or he wouldn’t have bothered arguing with him so much. If he had truly wanted to kill him, Jellall wouldn’t have suppressed his own power and acted like an ordinary, unremarkable wizard.

His original plan was just to subdue Tom, put him back into the notebook, and let the story get back on track.

But unfortunately, this guy was so confident he used Slytherin’s self-created "Kelpa Technique." He tried to devour Jellall’s soul with his own, thereby taking over Jellall’s body.

Of course.

You couldn’t call Tom Riddle stupid for this. After all, someone who could learn the "Kelpa Technique" at such a young age was certainly not stupid.

This spell required not only talent but also a very strong comprehension ability. Those who could learn it were mostly "wise."

So Tom wasn’t stupid; he just misjudged Jellall’s strength.

He thought that even if a wizard of Jellall’s age was powerful, his mental and soul strength couldn’t possibly compare to his own. After all, he was only fourteen years old when he created a Horcrux and had already sealed his soul within it.

With such a rare talent, which wizard of the same age could possibly have a stronger soul than his own?

With that thought in mind, Tom resolutely decided to cast the soul-devouring spell. But he never expected his tender little toe to kick an Iron Man city wall.

No matter how powerful Tom’s soul was, he was still human. But Jellall was a true god. For a human soul to try and devour a divine soul was, frankly, more absurd than an ant trying to swallow an elephant.

Let alone devouring him, even merely witnessing Jellall’s true soul in its spiritual form was something he couldn’t endure.

The collapse of his soul had become inevitable.

Standing on the head of the giant snake, Tom was frozen in place as if time had stopped. The giant snake beneath him was already starting to crumble. Its massive body was weathering away like dust, disappearing into the air.

Hum.

Just then, a distorted shadow appeared, transforming into Dumbledore’s form.

"It’s him..." Seeing Tom on top of the giant snake, the old professor visibly stiffened. "I should have known. Of course, it’s him. Alas, this is my responsibility."

"Everyone has the right to choose their own life," Jellall said calmly and unhurriedly. "He just made that choice. It has little to do with you."

"No, it was ultimately my fault for the shortcomings in my education and supervision," Dumbledore shook his head and sighed.

He had actually noticed Tom Riddle’s abnormality a long time ago, but at that time, Dumbledore hadn’t chosen to directly communicate with him. Not only did he not communicate, but he chose to let things be.

Dumbledore believed that it was precisely because of his actions that Voldemort was born.

"A person’s will and thoughts can change gradually based on the people they care about, but first, they need to have people they care about," Jellall turned to look at him and said faintly. "However, this Mr. Tom clearly doesn’t."

"Is that so?" Dumbledore seemed somewhat lost in thought and nodded slightly. "What about you, Zickrein? Do you have people you care about?"

"What do you think?" Jellall smiled and retorted.

Dumbledore stared intently at him, his gaze growing complex. "I..."

"Oh, my goodness!" Just as Dumbledore was about to speak, a scream interrupted whatever he was going to say. "What is that? What happened here?"

Both of them turned their heads simultaneously and saw the other professors, led by McGonagall, arriving.

"Tom Riddle?" McGonagall’s face showed horror as she looked at the blond boy gradually weathering away on the giant snake’s head. "Why? Why is he here?" Her gaze shifted to Dumbledore and Jellall in front of them.

"I think we’ll need to wait for the others to wake up to figure this out," Jellall replied with a smile.

"Who is Tom Riddle?" Lockhart seized the opportunity to ask, "Is he famous?"

"Yes, quite famous," Snape said, his face looking a bit grim and sinister. "Practically known throughout the entire wizarding world, known by everyone."

"Oh, my goodness!" Lockhart exclaimed with exaggeratedly wide eyes, "Does our school have another renowned student besides Harry Potter? This is incredible, truly incredible! But I’m sorry, I really haven’t heard this name."

"You’ve definitely heard his other name, Professor Lockhart," Jellall turned to him and smiled. "Voldemort."

Hiss.

The moment Jellall spoke that name, the surrounding professors gasped.

"No, impossible..." Lockhart trembled all over, his face full of dread. "How could it be him? He, isn’t he already... isn’t he already..."

"Zickrein, you shouldn’t have said that name!" McGonagall shouted at Jellall. "It’s a consensus in the wizarding world."

"Sorry, Professor McGonagall," Jellall didn’t argue and smiled. "I’ll be more careful in the future."

"Severus, could you please contact Madam Pomfrey?" Dumbledore instructed, "Tell her we have a very tricky situation here, very tricky." As he spoke, his gaze fell upon Tom, who was almost completely stripped away.

The guy now looked like a snake shedding its skin, his body utterly broken. But beneath this damaged outer layer, Cedric’s form was revealed, as if reborn.

High-level mental magic!

Dumbledore quickly made a judgment and understood Tom Riddle’s cause of death. The man was clearly impacted by powerful mental force, leading to the collapse of his soul.

But the truly masterful part wasn’t that; it was that while defeating Tom, he had also managed to protect Cedric, who had been possessed by him. This was something even Dumbledore would find difficult to do.

Yet his prize student had achieved it, and without using any spells.

Dumbledore’s gaze shifted to the wand lying on the ground, a touch of complexity and solemnity in his eyes. Zickrein, is he truly still Zickrein?
